Blue House
My latest bodies of work explore personal identity and boundaries through a series of conceptual self-portraits. Each image utilizes symbols to represent false securities. In one set of images I have placed myself in uncomfortable situations; my hair acts as a security blanket. In my second set of images the blue house acts as a surrogate, representing the comfort and safety I felt in my childhood home. I have purposely placed the blue house in environments that I find discomforting, such as alleyways and industrial sites. This portrays the anxiety that accompanies change. Together, these bodies of work express the summation of fears and challenges that many people face when transitioning from adolescence to adult life.
